Robert Motherwell's works on paper inspired me to use Chinese ink and black and white acrylic paint on paper exclusively for one year. Ultimately, the constraints led to the Black Suite Series and evolved into large paintings translating the vocabulary of brushwork developed during this time from paper to canvas.
